We’re excited to announce Meagan Gillis will be joining our team as the new principal xylophonist. Meagan comes hot off the streets of New York where she’s been earning a living busking in the subway. She brings a wealth xylophone experience to the team and has so far done an exceptional job assimilating our material. We’re so happy to have her!
We’re excited to share our recording of “Tha Crossroads”.
On April 23, 1996, up and coming rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony released Tha Crossroads. This innovative track blended rap and R&B, combining their signature staccato rap style with touching lyrics about losing a loved one. The song surged through the Billboard charts, reaching #1 on the Hot 100, Rap, and R&B lists.
When we approached doing this song, we spent a long time thinking about how to do it correctly. Our music can often time venture into the realm of “silliness” but for this song, we wanted to do justice to the original subject matter. A song about life and death isn’t a joke and we hope you consider our rendition a poignant nod to a song that had a big impact on our childhood.
We decided to keep a lot of the rhythmic and melodic feel of the tune choosing instead to recreate the backing track with our own unique instrumentation. So, here’s Bones Jugs doing Bone Thugs, complete with bones and a jug. Enjoy!
Friends, we have some bittersweet news. One of our beloved percussionists, Tim Berg, will be leaving Bones Jugs N Harmony to pursue a career in music education. Although we will miss Tim, we are happy for him, and excited about the future of Bones Jugs! He will be joining us on a limited number of shows in April before we say goodbye, so make sure you come out and catch him one last time! Stay tuned for more exciting announcements!
A word from Tim:
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported me as a member of Bones Jugs – friends, family, you are all the best! From my first show with the band in Chicago to the next two-hundred-plus all over this lovely country, I had a fantastic time playing with these fine musicians for the past two years. I am very much looking forward to following the great things in store for Bones Jugs as a fan. Keep on bonesin!
